Adina without a bit of drama on the finish line – not possible!

The fish that was never going to get away

The fish that was never going to get away

To start, Skipper decides we must try and fish one last time as we approached land. What happens – we get a fish bite! Watch three men determined this trip will finish with a catch. Pulling it in by hand – it got to the stern and lot’s of shouting to secure it – no way was it getting away – Barracuda landed! Tick that box.

Duck-winging we wanted to attack the finish line and with our limited manual furler we came up with a new move for gybing. Did it work – don’t be silly of course it didn’t! Off we sailed past St.Lucia and once all was recovered we were faced with tacking our way back to the finish line in lumpy seas. Nailing the finish line was hard and we tacked to clear the finishing committee boat who radioed us saying “Thank you for tacking and missing us – we’ve already been hit”. We crossed the line all on the helm cheering and shouting – it had to be done!

Into the marina we went radioing the berthing committee asking exactly where do we park – back came the response – “Look ahead at that welcoming group you have”. Fantastic and so very touching to see good friends waving and cheering. Our Union jacket and bowler hats went down a treat. Champagne and rum flowed – it all seemed so worth it.

So that’s it – we’ve sailed an ocean – we’ve seen the Atlantic at it’s quietest and it’s ugliest. It’s something that will live long, long in the memory.

Adina – crossed an ocean, lived on an ocean for three weeks.

Thank you so much for all your support and wishing you a Happy Christmas.

Tom, Susie, Gareth, Neil, Lindsay and Harold the much loved mallard duck.

Adina signing out.

“We all lived on a white yacht in the ocean, a white yacht in the ocean…”

Hi guys, I found the blog about 4 weeks ago and went through the whole lot – absolutely brilliant reading!

Just wanted to leave a note of congratulations on a successful passage! I hope you enjoy the Caribbean and that your RTW voyage lives up to the expectations. I still have quite a few years to go before I can do it myself.

Oh, and keep those blog posts coming!
    Andre

Great to see the adventure continues and that the blogger has been ‘unblocked’ (did it require a local or general anaesthetic?). We look forward to regular communication with you during 2014 (and beyond?). I am particularly jealous of your planned visit to Darwin’s playground in the Pacific – Watch out for those somewhat large lizard things!!

    Bon voyage.
