No email in the Pacific!
12Friday 25 April 2014
It seems that the middle of the Pacific is too far from land for Adina’s SSB email system, which is why there have been no blogs for a few days. They’ve been in touch via their backup short-message service on the Yellowbrick. Everything is ok and they passed their halfway point last Sunday.
Stephen.
Thought of you guys with no contact.
Don’t watch Robert Redford in …
“All is lost”!
Thanks Stephen, so glad we (they?!) have you as their man on the ground. Send our love if you can.
For those of you following Adina’s epic journey, you may be interested to know that since she left The Hamble last year I have been converting her Lat/Long reports into distances traveled and I can report that since leaving The Galapagos islands she has just (as of 4.00 am 26/4/14) passed the 2300 mile mark on her way across the Pacific towards the Marquesa Islands
Good to hear that all is well and that you have made such good progress
Good to know 😉 I’ve been thinking of them.
I have been providing ADINA med weather information and forecasts and noted since Aprl. 19th no contact. Read your note regarding sailmail system on board, do you know if they can receive??? that case will continue sending my daily forecast. Have noted posiotions on the Tracker System. Somewhat suprised
about their sailmail system as other yachts same area no difficulties communicate via sailmail.
Thanks for the update, I will keep up my usual Friday check on their progress and reading the blog. What a great place to be, so far from land and technology just the open water!!!
Looks like Adina made landfall! Congratulations, can’t wait to hear all about the Pacific crossing when internet access is restored
10 years ago we had winlink access all the way to New Zealand and some beyond. Stations in Austin, TX and The San Diego Yacht Club. Out there the propagation table is only a part of the equation. Places like the San Diego Yacht Club focus all they’ve got in that direction. When we crossed, the Aus govt did not allow stations there, but that changed, so maybe they could help. It wasn’t easy, but we eventually found one. Don’t rely on the propagation table!! We were never without coverage. Get on the nets and ask. We even did phone patches through Philadelphia. It takes some effort to figure out what frequencies work for what distances and who focuses in your direction.

We still have electricity and running water in New Zealand, honest….
New Zealand is awesome! North island and South Island are so different. We could move there and many of our friends did. Don’t miss it, you guys!
Looks like they’ve done a “Gilligan” on Hiva ‘Oa. Susie of course being the delectable Ginger. ……and Tom? Weeeeeeeeelll (einie, menie, miney….) the professor. 😉
