Last Passage Before Cyclone Season

Tuesday 18 November 2014

Adina is now in Dillon’s Bay on the island of Erromango in Vanuatu. We’ve had a fabulous stay and loved the local village. But move on we must, so we will up anchor 5pm Wednesday (6am UK time) and set sail on our final passage before stopping in Port Vila, Vanuatu for the cyclone season. Twenty months of living on board Adina and we have to stop for 4 months to make our insurers happy. It’s an 85 nautical mile overnight sail – and looking at the forecast for our final leg, it looks like more of that wretched goose-winging!

Not to say we’re done yet! We are looking forward to meeting up with friends James and Carolyn Ryan who live in Port Vila – we’ve got a little entertaining to do – and Tom’s father comes out to visit so we need to treat him to a little sail. People set various records on Adina – he is setting the record for the furthest trip to visit and with over 30kg of kit for us. Thanks in advance to those who have got some of that kit to him – we’re particularly excited about our new Iridium Go! satellite phone/wifi unit brought from New York by John Robbins!

Then on 28th November Adina will come out of the water for a well-deserved rest and a whole bunch of love and care. Her owners are looking forward to a bit of that too. But more adventure is never far away. More to follow.

It is nice to know that you have reached a safe place for the cyclone-season – and that you are still going strong. We wrote you an e-mail, long a little month ago – have you received that?
We are still on our spot in Pittwater and are enjoying life and are very comfortable with that.
Looking forward to hear from you soon – we still miss you.
    All our love,
    Tine and Gordon.

    Hi Susie and Tom

Great to read your piece in this month’s Yachting Monthly. I’ve spent the last few days getting ‘Another Fantasy’ ready for winter: sails off, engine winterised, you know the drill!! The last couple of trips I’ve made down the Hamble I’ve noticed a beautiful Hylas on one of the pontoons quite close to Universal. Makes me feel very envious!!
    Best wishes to you both
