Sailing Finally!
0Monday 9 July 2012
Finally, finally the weather gods shined on us. Ok it was cloudy, but there were snippets of lovely sunshine – it is summer remember. 12kts of wind building to 22kts late on.
So out we went and the main sail went all the way up for the very first time. We both looked at it and thought wow – it is rather large. So off we went, trying to work out the best way of gybing and tacking a yacht with a large over-lapping genoa and an inner forestay. Something neither of us are used to. Never mind how you trim such a large genoa backing wind onto the main.
And anchoring for the first time! That meant lunch in the famed Osborne bay. Luckily our depth finder who remains a mystery to us decided to play ball. So the electronic compass heading decided it was her turn to goto sleep. Thanks to the likes of John Robbins for his determination to help solve the depth finder. But we tweaked and pulled and randomly at around 6:30 Saturday she woke up! Unbelievable. Now how to solve the compass.
We only got in at 6 but it had just been a joy to get out.
Slowly but surely learning how Adina works – and it’s great fun!
No sailing for 2 weeks as off to Paris next weekend.
