Staying in Falmouth for now…

Thursday 4 April 2013

Quick update – sadly the weather is not playing ball for crossing to Spain. It would be windy getting out of Falmouth, but that’s fine as it’s the right direction, and Adina is solid and likes wind. But Biscay is tricky with constantly changing low pressure systems. Truth be told, it gets us down as we are aching to get south and have been constantly watching the weather forecasts two days ahead since . Sadly we then have south westerlies forecast until next Thursday and they give windy rough seas. Thanks to Neil Meyrick who is crewing with us for the crossing, and sitting in an office and also looking at the weather. More importantly, he hasn’t abandoned us and still intends joining us for the crossing!

So, square eyes onboard from continually looking at weather forecasts! There is even a lack of crabs in town as fishermen are not going out. That says something.

So we’ve decided chin up, let’s forget it ’til next week and let’s explore Falmouth, Cornwall!

On the upside it gives us time to do more boat work which we enjoy. Still anchored in Falmouth Bay – when it gets windy we feel like we’re sailing it’s so bouncy! But our anchor is holding nicely.

The dinghy takes us for a daily trip to town. We had a seal pop up right in front of us on one trip – not sure who was more surprised – the seal or us!

Wish it was more cheerful news but alas nature must be respected. We have another boat anchored nearby with hippies onboard. Susie keeps telling me off saying I can’t say that 🙂

Thank you for all of the messages you’ve been sending us on the blog or Facebook, we love them!

That’s it for now from two people determined to enjoy Falmouth. Do let us know of any recommendations!

Oh dear, not a good start. Rather be safe and sensible and wait until the weather improves. Chilly and rainy in SA (global warming??). At least I have a cosy house to go home to. Albeit with a mouse in the bathroom, kindly deposited there by Ruby in the middle of the night. Googled can mice climb tiled walls – unfortunately they can’t so guess it hasn’t made it out the window. Hope the weather improves soon and you can get on your way.

The sooner you can get away from the weather in this country the better!! You’d definitely enjoy the Eden Project if you haven’t been before. Isla has v kindly just booked accommodation for Marrakech we are all sorted. I bet that feels like a long way away at the for you guys at the moment! Xx

Just admiring Adina from our house on a terrace above Falmouth harbour. She looks beautiful! We hope you have a lovely stay in Falmouth – there are worse places to have to spend a few days! We are generally a friendly mob and the town dies have many great bars and restaurants. Good luck on the trip.

Hi Lesley and thanks for your nice comments. It’s a bit cold and breezy on the anchorage but we’re enjoying ourselves, and definitely happy that it’s sunny today! We’re making the most of being here and finding lots to do in Falmouth – everyone we’ve met has certainly been very friendly! Best wishes, Susie and Tom

    Hi Tom and Susy,

Thinking of you. Your blog reminded me of all those days Chris and I were sitting up in Kinlochbervie on Chris’s trip waiting to round Cape Wrath. It’s so disheartening checking the grib and not seeng what you want to see. Try to enjoy where you are as every minute of your trip will have content that you’ll remember. Keep blogging and safe passage. Sue xx
