Servicing the winch!
0Thursday 16 August 2012
The plan was to do some boat maintenance on Saturday and then have a sail on Sunday. On the back of the Olympics Susie had organized tickets for her team who sponsor British Swimming to attend ‘The Last Lap’, an after party for the Olympics athletes at China Whites. It ended up being a 3am session and two worse for wear people only made it down to the boat about 3pm on Saturday!
So Sunday the goal was to squeeze in the boat maintenance and have a short sail. The main thing that needed a service was the electric starboard winch which keeps slipping. And what a task it proved to be to get at its core. I never realised how many parts there are to a winch. And to get the whole thing out we had to go through the galley roof, a challenge in itself. And then we had to get it back in, which wasn’t easy given its weight. Furthermore we couldn’t find the fault! But its back in all cleaned and greased up. Sadly that required a few hours and with a few other tasks there was no time for any sailing. That’s three weekends no sailing. Fear not, we have lots to look forward to. Good sailing friends Charlie and Nicola onboard next weekend.
