Love and Attention for Adina
0Sunday 9 December 2012
It was time for one of those weekends when you had to face the facts – Adina needed some love and attention. Same as a house, use it and it will need some attention at some stage.
We had invited a man who apparently knew a thing or two about cleaning to look at our teak decks which were starting to attract mold as a result of constant English rain. Sadly many in the marine industry are happy to rip you off. But here was a chap who in half an hour had decided our boat was in good nick and he’d just give us lots of tips. £40 in a chandlery for a small bottle of deck cleaner or £5 on white wine vinegar. An hour later we had to get rid of him or we’d never get anything done! But all for nothing and having taken notes I was very grateful – not just cleaning but where to source boat parts etc.
I always found cleaning a car a bind and can’t remember the last time I had done it. Try clean a 46ft yacht! Three hours later I’d managed to clean half of the boat – and that was just anything white! And yes, I got a roller paint brush out and liberally applied white wine vinegar to the decks – Adina was smelling charming! Susie meanwhile was similarly doing a deep clean down below. Packing has never been my strength while Susie is a genius on organising everything neatly. Admittedly this results in lots of cries of “Susie, where’s xyz?” That makes me no different from any other man!
End of the weekend half cleaned, and more to go. It’s not all gin and tonics and glam…
