Cyclone Pam Update

IMG_0629.JPGA quick update from us on Cyclone Pam and what we know at this time.

Just to recap, Susie and I are safely in New Zealand where we have been attending a wedding and visiting friends. It goes without saying that we have been deeply worried about our friends in Vanuatu and it has been constantly on our minds. The good news is that all our friends have been accounted for and are safe and sound. We’re still waiting for news on some of the local Ni-Vanuatu we know – the first reports and footage from their villages show homes destroyed but people having survived. We still await news from the outer islands of Tanna and Erromanga where we spent time with the local villagers and our prayers and thoughts are with them.

As for Adina, we have had the following message from our friend Ingrid in Port Vila “all of the yachts that were hauled out on Justin’s boat yard survived without any damages”. Relief on our part, we worked hard on ensuring our beloved Adina was well tied down and stripped of everything we could take off. Our grateful thanks to Justin and the Port Vila Boatyard team as we know they had tied on more lines in advance of the cyclone.

Susie and I are scheduled to fly back this Saturday when we can check Adina for any smaller damage and start to understand the impact on the island for ourselves. As for our future plans, they are up in the air at the moment. We want to help out in Efate in any capacity we can and if we can get Adina back up-and-running, back in the water and the situation is safe, we will sail to the outer islands to take supplies and help the locals.

Thank you to those who have been in contact for all your support. If you can help the people of Vanuatu by making a contribution to an aid organisation, please do.

The Adina story continues.

What a relief for you both that Adina is safe.
I am sure it will be tough when you get back at the weekend to see all the devastation.
They seem to be very resilient people out there looking at the media footage.
Children still smiling and getting on with the clear up operation.

    We are thinking of you,
    Love,
    Aunty Helen and family
