Weymouth, Weymouth, Weymouth!

I’ve always wanted to go to Honfleur in France, and have indeed planned it a few times but weather/tides have meant it has eluded me. In fact I’ve ended up in Weymouth more times than I wish to remember as a result. So we decided to take an extra day off and I did all the planning to visit Honfleur.

What happened? We ended up in … Weymouth!! Damn it!
Heading for Weymouth
The weather forecast was for no wind going over and a good deal of it on the nose coming back. Given we wanted to get some sailing in, the only option was Weymouth. It was our first time out the Solent on Adina and crack of dawn Friday morning we headed out. A lovely sail over with only a little motoring and of course a dose of English rain at times. But experience with the boat is what we wanted, and we enjoyed it. The Saturday forecast was for a right hoolie and given our rafted up neighbours were going nowhere we opted to stay put as well. So it was a day of sight seeing and boat maintenance.

Sunday the winds were behind us and we headed off for a night anchored in Studland Bay near Poole. The English coast is truly lovely close-up. Sunday night was spent on the back of the boat using the fishing rod while sipping on a glass of wine. Wine was good but a yacht caught fish still eludes Thomas.
We woke early on Monday and headed off for the Needles knowing we’d be punching tide. Deciding to switch on the engine for safety the diesel bug snagged us again as we turned up for home. No alarm, Susie proceeded to change both filters with ease while Tom enjoyed a downwind sail in 16kts managing 4-5kts SOG despite punching tide. A bit of a slow slog home against tide and we were in at a decent time. Was just really nice to get some decent sailing in and understand how Adina sails. In fact we’re canning our week in Spain in favour of more experience sailing! Probably go to Weymouth again…
