The Godchildren sail Adina

Sunday 2 September 2012

Friday night we were joined by Susies parents, Richard and Ros, who had kindly agreed to come and help us with a day of boat maintenance. We tested out our marinas local restaurant Nellies for the first time and it exceeded expectations. Saturday dawned and Richard had slept well which was good news as he is well over 6ft and means our guest bed will work for all!

First task was to empty the engine oil. The instructions told us we should use the oil pump if installed. Not much help and we tried to see if we could find it. No joy. Then we found the sign sitting right under our noses “Oil Pump”! Three of us embarrassed.
It turned out to be a fruitful day as things got fixed or as in the case of Ros got measured. Ros is making us cushion, window and winch covers. Bound to look good!
A dash back to London Saturday night to see good friends Isla, Kate, Emma, Simmo, Eldon and Paul. Isla and Simmo were over from Milan and Isla has just recovered from cancer. It was a really lovely evening with people whose company we so enjoy.

Frank the pro helm!

Back down to the boat on Sunday and we had the Mace family onboard. That’s Paul and Caroline and their three children Frank (5), Henry (3) and Stanley (baby). Tom is Godfather to Frank and Henry. And the boys took to it like ducks to water! Frank in particular has all the makings of a future sailor. He loved it and was helping with helming, anchoring, navigation, lines etc.

Henry on the other hand decided a yacht makes a great jungle gym and within no time was running around with gay abandonment. Of course kids fall off jungle gyms and despite having a life jacket there were a few moments. Dad resolved the issue by using a safety harness and clipping Henry on to himself!

Frank and Henry decide the bed makes a great playground…

Stanley slept whenever the engine came on and Mum Caroline braved a bit of a bumpy sea while at anchor.
We think Dad and the kids loved it but they may need to convince Mum if they are to join us for more. A great day and really wonderful experience, we all traipsed on back to London shattered.

Frank and Paul deciding which way is the right way home – I’m going with Frank!

I do love my God children!
